Tears of the past!

One Piece Manga chapter 717 review

Rating: 4/5

This chapter gave a lot more than the last one as we see some character development and a few hints about bits and things that were in my mind.

So, the chapter starts off Luffy and Don Qinjao fighting in Block C. I think this is very subtle but Oda has given us a hint of what One Piece is by saying what it means to be the King of Pirates. We see Don Qinjao saying what as he said "... there are countless people with the right qualities to become a King. You must challenge them!! You must be the top of all the conquerors. That's who the King of Pirates is!!" Even if it is very arguable, it is still a hint. This tells us that Luffy is going to fight every Yonkou, Schichibukai, Marines and pirates as this is what it takes to be the King of the Pirates. We already know 3 of the 4 Yonkou that Luffy has a problem or wants to fight with and they are Shanks, Blackbeard and Big Mam and now Law has targeted Kaido so that's all the Yonkou. We already know a few Schichibukai that he has fought with and he is going to fight one now.

Then we see Don Qinjao crying because of the past. I think he was very close to getting One Piece since he also has a problem with Rayleigh and that means he had a problem with Roger too. However, he didn't get One Piece as Garp stopped him. Or Roger himself stopped him and Garp took him in. Don Qinjao doesn't seem to know what Garp did to him but he just knows its Garp which I think is very stupid as it could be anyone. It might even be that they helped him but he looked at that help in the wrong light and if that is true then i think he needs to sort himself out. I think that when he headbutted a continent he was close to Raftel but he couldn't go any further as he was severely injured and Garp probably helped him heal but took him away from Raftel and Don only remember being taken away from Raftel so he took it in the wrong light.

Then we see Sanji and Kinemon. They are near the Colosseum and they see the Marines surrounding it. Which is quite clever as they can arrest or attack any of the wanted criminals or pirates. We see a Vice Admiral outside waiting as well and he mentions Maynard and how he is waiting for Maynard to contact him but we know that Bartolomeo killed Maynard and I can see him coming out and saying it like he doesn't care. I think it's a bit weird how some of the losers from Block A and B aren't out yet as they should be since they have nothing to do now. Maybe they're in the factory already.

Now, we see the toy with Franky talking and this is very weird, although most of the readers guessed it. The toys were actually human before but they were turned into a toy by a Devil Fruit eater, most likely it was Jola. But why would Doflamingo do that? I mean he has basically ruined so many families and relationships but why? Maybe to test his artificial Devil Fruits? The weird thing is that once you're turned into a toy the memories of you are vanished from the people that knew you. Also, the toy with Franky mentions that there are two rules that have been obeyed since Doflamingo became the King 10 years ago: 1) Toys and humans can not enter each others house and 2) Lights in town go off at 12:00 am. After that no one is allowed out. It is weird how this law was made. There must be a reason and I think that the reason is that after 12 the factory starts working and they don't want anyone getting any hints about it. And the first rule is even more weird. Humans are not allowed in toys's houses and vice versa but for what reason? To stop them reproducing maybe? Or to stop the toys generating feelings in the humans heart and to stop awakening their old memories?

We see Doflamingo and Law and Fujitora fighting which is good, to be honest. Law is still holding up which is good to see. He is trying to contact Nami for some reason.

We also see Robin and Usopp with the Dwarves and we find out that the factory is actually under the Colosseum which is quite a good place to put it since no one would suspect anything there and also that would explain why no one has seen the factory.

Finally I give this chapter 4/5 because we got to see a lot and we have been given a lot of information regarding the final decisive battle. Overall I enjoyed it a lot.
